Steve’s Artisan “Turbo” Bread
Steve’s turbo bread is the first bread I ever made in a cast iron skillet. I heard about this bread on the
Here are Steve’s instructions, complete with video! Steve gives very thorough, clear, and detailed instructions. He also has a website with all kinds of helpful tips on making his no-knead bread.
Hint: I added 2T agave nectar with the water to add a bit of sweetness, and I dusted with chia, not sesame, seeds. Unsalted
“Knead Not” Sourdough Bread
Just by the title of this recipe, I bet you can guess its creator.
That’s right, Alton Brown. I love Alton Brown so it was necessary to include a recipe from him in this little compilation.
An awesome side note to this recipe is that Alton provides instructions on how to make this bread in a cast iron camp oven (aka Chuckwagon). I love to tent camp, and our group enjoys big festive meals; this would be a perfect addition!
Skillet Soda Bread
I actually had to stop and take a look at what “soda bread” is. I am not sure if I have ever tried it! Essentially, it is a bread recipe that has baking soda as the leavening agent instead of yeast. Who knew?
This recipe calls for a 7-inch cast iron skillet, so you’ll want to pull out your number 5 or number 6. A nice little loaf to share!
Steve’s No-Knead Honey-Oatmeal Bread
As you can see, I am a fan of Steve’s. His loaves of breadare delicious and oh-so-easy! In his video, he makes a no-knead honey-oatmeal loaf in an enameled cast iron Dutch oven. He also shows how to make the bread in a loaf pan. No need to shape the bread; the pan itself shapes the bread.
In addition to the great taste, I particularly like Steve’s easy-to-follow instructions.
Rosemary Parmesan Skillet Bread
Again, no kneading. Prep time is only 15 minutes! You can make this bread with all white flour or half-white and half-wheat flour.
Fresh rosemary with a crispy parmesan top. I can just taste this alongside a marinara meatball dish or a hearty stew.
Cheddar Cheese “Pillow” Bread
That’s what its creator bills it as: bread that is as soft as a pillow, with only 5 ingredients! The recipe is here.
I love how the cheddar is speckled throughout the bread; you get a little cheddar in every bite!
Whole Wheat Dutch Oven Bread
The creator of this bread uses an enameled Dutch oven to bake her bread. I am sure you could use a cast iron skillet (I would use a number 8) or regular black cast iron chicken pan or Dutch oven, as well.
You can find the recipe here.
Olive and Garlic Skillet Bread
Any Italian-style dish cries out for a bread accompaniment such as this! Spaghetti carbonara, spaghetti al olio, spaghetti with marinara sauce!
Some of the suggestions in the comments offer other tantalizing variations of this bread – sunflower seeds, pumpkin seed. I bet a bit of basil and oregano would add a nice touch, as well! Find the recipe here.
Chocolate Banana Bread
A chocolate and banana bread that tastes like cake, made in a cast iron skillet? I’ll have two slices, please.
Look at this tantalizing loaf! Made in a 10″ (no. 7 or 8) cast iron skillet.
Now for the important decisions. A nice cup of coffee or a latte alongside? What kind of ice cream should we have with this cake/bread? Warmed up with vanilla? Butter pecan? Chocolate? Find the recipe here.
Banana Nut Bread
The creator of this scrumptious-looking loaf says that the texture is a bit more like cake. While she likes to eat it with softened salted butter, I think a warm piece with a scoop of ice cream would hit the spot! If you added some chocolate chips to the mix, that would make this bread even more dessert-friendly.
Whole Wheat Skillet Bread
Easy-peasy healthful bread. I love the sprinkle of oats and salt on the crust.
The Kitch’n bills this as a “Fuss-Free Skillet Focaccia That’s Endlessly Adaptable.” The writer says, “I like playing around with different herbs from my garden or sprinkling the top with sesame seeds. Chopped sun-dried tomatoes and thinly sliced lemon are also delicious, as is my current favorite: everything bagel seasoning.
Hey, I have some everything bagel seasoning from Trader Joe’s. This could be my next baking experiment!
Seeded Overnight Bread
Okay, this one doesn’t sound quite so easy, but given that it’s Martha Stewart, you wouldn’t expect it to be four simple ingredients, would you?
It does sound and look delicious, however. It also contains healthful ingredients, so you can convince yourself that even though you are eating bread, it is healthy bread! And, you are getting your daily dose of fiber!
Martha says that this “no-knead, no-fuss oat and wheat bread is packed with pumpkin, flax, poppy, and sesame seeds.”
The recipe is here.
Rosemary Lemon Bread
This recipe is from Williams-Sonoma, so it is baked in a very fancy Staub Dutch oven. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not being snarky; I covet those Staub pieces. I’m just jealous because I don’t have one…yet.
Like several of the other recipes, the dough for this bread is placed in a pre-heated cast iron vessel. The pre-heating results in a lovely crispy crust.
I love salt. I love olives. This recipe from Better Homes & Gardens has both. I think I would love eating this bread on its own along with a nice Zinfandel. That would make me happy.
